Port Blair, Oct. 21: The ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, South Andaman, organized a month-long programme under the umbrella of Swachha Bharat Abhiyan from 02nd Oct 2022 to mark the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. The series of event started by taking Swachhata pledge at KVK, Sippighat followed by a number of activities like record maintenance, cleaning and painting of the office premises etc.

Cleanliness and sanitation drive was carried out at Chouldari and Guptapara panchayats under South Andaman district. Specialists from KVK delivered lectures on “recycling of agricultural waste through microorganism, enriched compost preparation, importance of social cleanliness, Nutri-Garden”.

Awareness was created in market places regarding alternate ways of packaging material, proper disposal of animal waste. During the programme attempts were also made to motivate farmers and farming community to become a part of this National Mission by keeping the premises of their houses, community halls and other public places clean. The programmes were organized under the guidance and supervision of Dr Eaknath B. Chakurkar, Director CIARI, Port Blair.
