Port Blair, Oct. 23: The ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, South Andaman, along with AFC Foundation India organizes Kisan Goshti and Exposure visit on 21st Oct 2022 at KVK, Sippighat. The objective of the programme was to create awareness among SHG’s regarding various activities of KVK and also to discuss in detail different sustainable income generating avenues suitable for farm women of the Islands.
The participants were motivated to take up new and upscale the existing enterprise for the betterment of the community. Anecdote of Progressive farmers nurtured by ICAR-KVK were shared with the participants and encouraged them to transform their lives.
Dr N. Bommayasamy, SMS (Agronomy) delivered a lecture on the “Need and Importance of Natural farming”. Dr Pooja Kapoor, SMS (Home Sc) discussed about “Value addition in coconut for economic and nutritional security”. Dr. Nitu Sindhu, Woman Scientist (DST) highlighted about “Organic Mushroom Cultivation for Income Generation”.
A total of 68 farmwomen from different SHG’s participated and were benefitted from the programme. The programme was organized under the guidance and supervision of Dr Eaknath B. Chakurkar, Director CIARI, Port Blair and Dr. Y. Ramakrishna, Pr. Scientist & Head, KVK.
