Port Blair, Oct. 23: The Andaman Sarvajanik Nirman Vibhag Mazdoor Sangh (ASNVMS), affiliated to CITU conducted a territory-wide mass demonstration in front of the offices of the APWD for three days from 19th to 21st October, 2022, demanding (i) implementation of High Court order on grant of 1/30th of pay plus DA Scheme of Govt. of India (ii) implementation of High Court order on grant of Bonus to all daily rated mazdoors and (iii) rgularisation of services of DRMs.

Hundreds of workers participated in these programmes daily. A General Body meeting of the ASNVMS was held on 22nd October, 2022 evening at Port Blair. The meeting was informed of the discussions the leaders of the CITU had with officers of the A & N Administration during the course of agitation. Shri B. Chandrachoodan, President of ASNVNS & General Secretary, CITU State Committee had a discussion with the Commissioner-cum-Secretary (PWD) on 20th October, 2022 in which the Commissioner informed him that the Court order on grant of 1/30th of pay plus DA to all DRMs is being examined by the Administration.  Regarding Bonus to all DRMs, the Commr-cum-Secy (PWD) informed that the matter will be examined immediately.  

On the same day evening (20th October, 2022), Shri D. Ayyappan, Vice President of CITU State Committee had brought the issue of non-implementation of High Court order on 1/30th of pay plus DA to the DRMs, to the notice of the Chief Secretary during a meeting held in the Chamber of Chief Secretary. The Chief Secretary informed Shri Ayyappan that the issue is actively under consideration in the Administration and assured favourable orders shortly.  

The General Body meeting of ASNVMS, after detailed discussion in view of the assurances given by the Chief Secretary and Commr-cum-Secretary (PWD), decided to defer the ongoing agitation of APWD workers. The Union will review the position after two weeks and will take appropriate decision if the demands are not settled by that time.
