Club to Felicitate Great Andamanese Girl Techa for Clearing NEET

Port Blair, Oct. 23: On the occasion of Diwali, the Lions Club of Aberdeen organised a small function to share their joy and spread some smiles on the faces of the needy and underprivileged members of the society. The programme was organised as Hotel NK International on 22nd Oct. 2022 at 6.30 pm, wherein 12 single mothers and children were gifted sweets, fire crackers and monitory support to make their Diwali special.

Speaking on the occasion the Secretary of the Lions Club, Ln. SP Suresh Kumar said that the club has been doing such activities since its inception. This time the club had decided to spread some smiles on the faces of the needy to make their Diwali special.

The occasion was graced by the Editors and representatives of the mainstream media, who were also felicitated by the club. The felicitation was followed by an interactive session with the media on how the club can expand its activities in the islands and also to understand the issues and needs of the islanders. One of the suggestion was to provide a laptop to Miss Techa, the first Great Andamanese girl to have cleared her NEET this year. The dwindling Great Andamanese are considered to be the Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group of the Islands, who are under the direct care of the Tribal Welfare department. In spite of this, the handful of the tribal members haven’t been granted the required and timely assistance, which is a major concern.

The Lions declared on the spot to felicitate Techa as an encouragement to score well in her future and make her community and the Islanders proud.

The approach of the club members was well appreciated by the media and the single mothers who thanked the members for making their Diwali special.
