Port Blair, Oct. 25: There are few heroic warriors among us who had fought many odds in life and today they are our society's "Knights in the shining armour". These people from common background rose to their prominent positions with consistent perseverance and became a role model in the society. To celebrate and appreciate such unsung heroes of Andaman & Nicobar Islands, the Ministry of Youth affairs and Sports, Government of India in partnership with Nehru Yuva Kendra, Port Blair organised a grand ceremony on 22nd of this October.
The city's B. R. Ambedkar Auditorium has witnessed a large gathering to celebrate the achievements of many such extraordinary individuals. A number of NGO's, educational institutions, social activist, professionals from different backgrounds were awarded the Certificate of Commendation for their extraordinary feat.
Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, Member of Parliament graced the occasion as the chief guest while Smt. Pramila Kumari, Adhyaksha Zilla Parishad, South Andaman was the guest of honour. Among the many recipients of this prestigious award, Shri. P. Abdul Basheer of Nai Manzil (NGO) was also awarded the certificate of commendation for his contribution in the field of Swatch Bharat Abhiyaan, Water Harvesting & Conservation and especially for promoting Culture & Sports for the rural youth of Andaman Nicobar Islands.
Abdul Basheer is currently serving as the Pradhan of Gram Panchayat Kanyapuram and he is still actively involved in socially relevant issues. This award is his recent accomplishment among the many he had earned in his career spanning for more than a decade as a social activist. On receiving this award, he expressed his gratitude to the Ministry of Youth & Sports and Nehru Yuva Kendra, Port Blair for considering his contribution in his chosen field.
