Port Blair, Oct. 26: A two days HRD Programme on impact of pesticide residues on field crops was conducted by Central Integrated Pest Management Centre (CIPMC), Ministry of Agri. & Farmers Welfare, Govt. of India, Port Blair in collaboration with Department of Agriculture at Panchayat Hall, Ferrargunj, South Andaman.

The focus of the programme was on the IPM Technology, where Smt. D. Adailaxmy, AA, Dept. of Agri. in her welcome address, briefed on the importance of IPM in agriculture crops. Shri Ramesh, H.P, PPO (E), CIPMC, Port Blair addressed the concern over adverse effect of pesticides residues above MRL and discussed upon safe use of pesticides. Dr Janardan Saikia (APPO), PQS, Port Blair spoke upon the major insect pest management in field crops through IPM practices.

Shri Navashakthi, A.O, Dept. of Agri., suggested the farmers on the importance of Integrated Farming System, IDM, IPM, ATMA model to ensure all the inputs required for agriculture which are organic in nature and can be derived from field by integrating livestock, poultry and fish cultures. During the technical session Smt. Lipika Mandal, BTM (ATMA), Smt. Sunitha Kumari, ATM (ATMA) and Smt. Meena kumara, ATM (ATMA) were the resource persons and covered different topics like seed treatment, pest and disease management on different crops with IPM Technology.

Shri Edmond Baa, Up-Pradhan, Ferrargunj Gram Panchayat in his welcome address talked on the importance of organic farming with all the participants and Panchyat Secretary, Ferrargunj Gram Panchayat was also present. The training programme was successfully concluded with 60 participants including women farmers.
