Port Blair, Oct. 27: The Department of Industries has been implementing a Centrally Sponsored Scheme ‘Prime Minister’s Formalization of Micro Food Processing Enterprises Scheme (PM FME)’ of Ministry of Food Processing Industries under Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan with the objective to formulize and strengthen Micro Food Processing Enterprises by utilizing the local resources. Under the scheme, financial assistance in the form of Credit Linked Subsidy @ 35% of the project cost will be extended to the individual and group enterprises.

The Department has been publicizing the scheme through different media to ensure proper dissemination and outreach across the A & N Islands. Since the response from the stakeholders was found to be inadequate, the Department has been conducting outreach sensitization program in different Gram Panchayats/ Villages in three Districts w.e.f. 25/10/2022. The programmes were conducted at Gram Panchayat, Sita Nagar, North Andaman, Gram Panchayat Subash Gram, North Andaman, Arong, Car Nicobar, Haddo, Ward No.1 & 2, Gram Panchayat, Sippighat, Gram Panchayat, Ram Krishna Gram, North Andaman, Small Lapathy, Car Nicobar.

The sensitization programme organized at Community Hall, Haddo was participated by residents of Ward No. 1 & 2. The programme was attended by Shri Abhishek Bhukal, Director of Industries in the presence of Shri. S. Shahul Hamid, Councilor, Ward No.1 and Shri. R. Someswara Rao, Councilor, Ward No.2.

In his inaugural address, the Director of Industries highlighted the scheme components of PM FME Scheme and the intervention of A & N Administration for addressing the Food Processing Sector of A & N Islands. He also appraised the participants about the Incubation Centre to be established under this scheme at an estimated cost of Rs.159.20 lakh through Fisheries Department at Marine Hill, Port Blair. With this facility, the budding entrepreneurs and aspirants willing to set up fish based enterprises may be provided with the facility to develop their own product. He encouraged the participants to avail the scheme benefits for development of their food based enterprises. The Councilors of Ward No.1 & 2 appreciated the efforts of Industries Department and motivated the participants to set up self-employment ventures through different schemes & programs of the A & N Administration and Govt. of India.
