Port Blair, Nov. 7: The meeting of the CPI (M) Andaman & Nicobar State Organising Committee held at Port Blair on 5th November 2022 notes with concern and anguish that the investigation into the sex-for-job racket involving a former Chief Secretary of the Andaman & Nicobar Administration, who is a 1990 batch IAS officer, former Labour Commissioner and a few other people is not being carried out as per law.

The meeting noted that the A&N Police has not yet arrested any of the accused persons in the case so far. The meeting noted that some of the accused persons have reportedly left the islands a few days back even though the  case was registered at Port Blair on 1st October, 2022 under section 376D, 506, 228A and 120B of the IPC against the above persons.  The main accused in the case the former Chief Secretary has easily got the interim bail due to the soft corner of the Prosecution.  It was only after the criticism from various quarters appeared in the media that the A & N Administration approached the Supreme Court to get the interim bail cancelled.

The meeting also noted that the Indian Express newspaper has already published a series of reports on this issue and it was reported that more than 20 women have been lured into the sex-for-job racket.   The said IAS officer has been getting overt or covert support from the BJP government at the centre because of which he remained in the post for a long 17 months despite his autocratic style of functioning, large scale corruption, arrogant attitude towards other officers and staff.

CPI (M) observes that the victim girl who came forward to register the case now and other women who were exploited by the former Chief Secretary and others will not get justice if the case is continued to be investigated by the Andaman & Nicobar Police. The Andaman and Nicobar State Organising Committee of the CPI (M) has urged the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India and the Lt. Governor, A&N Islands to hand over the above case to the CBI  for proper investigation in the present case and also  to investigate other cases as reported in the media.
