Port Blair, Nov. 17: As part of celebration of Janjati Gaurav Diwas, 2022 which marks the birth anniversary of Tribal Freedom Fighter ‘Birsa Munda’, the Andaman & Nicobar Tribal Research & Training Institute (ANTRI) in collaboration with Directorate of Tribal Welfare, A&N Administration organized a one-day seminar on the theme ‘Contribution of Tribal Freedom Fighters’.

Speaking on the occasion, the Principal, JNRM, Dr H.K Sharma enlightened the participants about the immense contribution of tribal communities in Indian freedom struggle.  He stated that tribal people showed their heroism by sacrificing their lives in the Independence movement and therefore, it is the responsibility of Indians, particularly the present generation, to make themselves aware of such struggles and remember them with a feeling of pride.

Head of Office, Anthropological Survey of India, Dr Nilanjan Khatua, ex-Director (Tribal Welfare), Shri Som Naidu, Renowned Historian & Founder Kalapani Museum, Shri Mukeshwar Lall, Joint Secretary, Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram, Ms Sampatti Xalxo, Associate Professor, ANCOL, Ms Jochibet Vincent, Assistant Professor, JNRM, Dr Vivek Sahu and Tribal Welfare Officer, Dr. Pronob Sircar also delivered speeches on different aspects pertaining to the theme.
