Diglipur, Nov. 17: A young student artist Indrajit Das from the rural area of Madhupur village has made his family and school feel proud of his achievement at the State Level Painting competition on ‘Energy Conservation’, conducted by the ‘bureau of energy efficiency’ under the Ministry of power, held recently at Port Blair.

Taking part in the competition, Indrajit, student of class X of Government Secondary School Madhupur stood third at the state level and was awarded a cash prize of Rs. 20,000. After qualifying the zonal and district level, he became the first of the six, winners at state level, who hails from the rural area. All the rest of the five artists are from the schools of Port Blair. Indrajit along with the other five winners will now take part at the National Level Competition to be held on 14th December in New Delhi.

Sharing his experience, Indrajit, the son of the farming family of Shri Sanjit Das and Smti Anjana Das said that participation in this competition has been very exciting and he would treasure these memories. Coming to Port Blair for the first time in life, Indrajit said that the competition has given opportunity to the students like him, from rural areas to visit Port Blair and to compete at the state level. Grateful Indrajit said although his father is a marginal farmer, he always got him the painting medium and little facilities of his small capacity, enabling him to continue doing creative works on canvas.

Talking about the conducive environment of his school, he said the Principal, Shri M. Nehru, teachers Shri Sujit Gharami and Shri Vishal have always encouraged him to continue his passion with paint and brush along with the academics. Missing the guidance of a trained Fine Art teacher, Indrajit said that there is no Fine Art teacher available around to seek his guidance and he has learnt the art on his own. He said water colour is his favorite medium and ‘Environment and Nature’ are his most liked theme.

Indrajit is a sensitive artist and it is reflected from his creations also. A lover of mother nature, he said infrastructural development could be a necessity, but we have to take care of the fragile ecosystem also. We should strive to make a balance between the two. He said he always tries to spread the message of the need for the Conservation of the environment, through his paintings.

Always standing first in the competitions at the local level so far, Indrajit said he actually doesn't compete for prizes, rather to express his feelings and emotions on the given subject. “This time also I will take part at the Nationals with the same intention”, the motivated young school artist from Madhupur said, hoping that he would get to see some finest creations from his fellow competitors from the different parts of the country, in New Delhi, next month.
