Car Nicobar, Dec.1: The Mission Director, UTHM, A&N Administration, Dr. Anil Agarwal along with Joint Mission Director, Dr. Suja Anthony during their two-day visit to Car Nicobar held a meeting with the Chairman Tribal Council and other Tribal Leaders in the presence of Deputy Commissioner (N), Assistant Commissioner (HQ), Medical Superintendent, BJR Hospital to discuss health care need of the Tribal Population in Nicobar District.

The Mission Director, NHM also visited BJR Hospital and held a meeting with the Doctors in the presence of Deputy Commissioner (Nicobars) and Assistant Commissioner (HQ). A PPT presentation was made by the Health Department to apprise the Mission Director about ongoing health programmes and activities at Nicobar District. The Mission Director encouraged the Doctors and staff to continue the good work and also gave valuable suggestion for better patient care services.

The team also inspected the Health and Wellness Centre at Mus village, Car Nicobar. It was informed by Dr. Arun Pal Singh, Medical Officer, BJR Hospital, Car Nicobar that nearly 70 patients are awaiting cataract surgery due to non-availability an Ophthalmic Surgeon at the District. In this regard, the Mission Director, NHM has requested the Director, ANIIMS to organize such surgeries at ANIIMS, Port Blair in a scheduled manner. The Deputy Commissioner, (N) has agreed to facilitate necessary logistics at Car Nicobar while the Mission Director NHM in consultation with DHS has agreed to facilitate these patients at Port Blair.

The Mission Director, NHM has requested the Deputy Commissioner (N) to make available Specialists especially Gynecologists & Pediatrician at Campbell Bay PHC at least once or twice on monthly basis, so that patients in these remote areas are duly attended to.

The Mission Director NHM also laid emphasis on thorough screening of TB suspects & contacts to achieve the National target of elimination of TB before 2025. For the purpose/ additional funds will be provided to the District under NTEP.
