Port Blair, Dec. 9: The Member of Parliament, Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested the Hon’ble Lt. Governor of Andaman & Nicobar Islands to open the newly built Girls’ Hostel of ANCOL as soon as possible after completing the pending works so that it brings some relief for girl students and to extend the capacity of all Boys’ and Girls’ hostels of JNRM and ANCOL as well as MGGC, keeping next ten years’ demand in mind.

The Member of Parliament informed the Hon’ble Lt. Governor that shortage of Hostel for Boys and Girls has become a major issue for all prominent colleges of Andaman & Nicobar Islands forcing youth children to look for private accommodation, which are not only expensive but also a safety concern.

He added that since the last many years we have been witnessing that hundreds of college students, including girl students are not given a hostel which is a major issue for the parents, especially those who hail from far flung Islands.

He pointed out that in many cases more than three students are accommodated in a single room, due to lack of beds, which is again undesirable for the health and concentration of students towards studies.

Pointing out that the Girls’ Hostel of ANCOL is 85 percent ready but due to some minor works pending, the hostel has not been opened till now. He requested the Lt. Governor to open the newly built Girls’ Hostel of ANCOL as soon as possible after completing the pending works so that it brings some relief for girl students.

He also requested the Hon’ble Lt. Governor to extend the capacity of all hostels of JNRM and ANCOL as well as MGGC, keeping next ten years’ demand in mind, so that all desiring students of Andaman & Nicobar Islands get proper hostel rooms and they can focus in their studies.
