Kalighat, Dec 15: The School students of Kalighat and Diglipur today blocked the road at Kalighat, raising demands to provide school buses on time. The ‘Chakka Jam’ protest continued for three hours from the morning at 7.00 AM and the transport services were kept on halt.

Soon after getting the information of the protest by the students, the Assistant Engineer of the State Transport Service rushed to Kalighat spot from his office at Mayabunder. The Tahsildar too reached from Diglipur. The Parents accompanying the students in the strike expressed their agitation stating that the bus services are delayed quite often and as a result the students reach late to their schools at Sita Nagar and Diglipur. Many parents complained that it has become a regular practice and the studies of the students are affected badly. There were many parents from Ramnagar and Nabgram also, whose children are studying in Kalighat Senior Secondary School.

Having heard the grievances of the parents and students, the AE and the other higher officials of the Administration of the Tehsil assured them that everything would be streamlined from tomorrow and the school bus would be provided on time. The problems of the students of the far flung areas coming from Ram nagar, Kalighat to the Model Senior Secondary School Sitanagar would be solved on priority, they assured.

On getting a positive response, the students called off the ‘Chakka Jam’. Our correspondent from Kalighat informed that the worst condition of the road under construction has been disturbing the STS to operate buses on time. Many times the buses succumbed to technical faults while on run.  The PRI members had also raised this issue of poor road conditions in the past. But now the road construction work has got momentum after the intervention of the Hon’ble High Court, from the past few days and the people of this rural region are hopeful that this time work will progress to its completion.
