Port Blair, Dec 22: A toy fair was organized today at Govt. Primary School Naya Shahar. This fair was the first of its kind, as the toys were prepared and developed by the small children with the help of their parents and teachers. The commendable thing about the making of the toys was that all the items were prepared using waste materials like newspaper, plastic materials, cloths etc.

Inaugurating the Fair, the Deputy Education Officer, Smti Sangita Chand appreciated the participation of the parents and guardians in guiding their children in shaping the toys. She said that with the support of the parents the educational goal of developing the overall personality of the student can be achieved successfully.

Elaborating the National Initiative Program ‘NIPUN’ for making the child proficient in reading with understanding and Numeracy, she said that art and aesthetic development under the program are one of the key areas, through which the interest in children for learning can be boosted. The beautifully made toys reflect the interest of the children and the skills and interest should be applied to achieve the defined learning outcomes.

Smti Sangeeta Chand called upon the teachers to use the toys as teaching learning materials in the classrooms to make their teaching more effective.

Earlier, welcoming the guests the Headmaster In-charge of the school, Shri Duryodhan Rao informed that the response of the parents has been very encouraging and they devoted their time to guide the children to make beautiful and useful things.
