Police Calls Upon the Youth to Stay Away from the Grip of Drug Abuse

Diglipur, Jan 6: The Diglipur Police has called upon the school students to stay away from the alluring grip of drug menace. The DySP of the region Shri Lakshya Pandey while distributing the prizes to the winners of the Annual Athletics Meet of the Govt. Model Senior Secondary School, Sita Nagar this evening said that students should be cautious not to get trapped under the clutches of drugs of any kind. He said that the students should develop interest in sports and by adopting sports as their hobbies, not only will they remain physically fit, but they will excel in studies and other walks of life as well. Sports inculcates discipline, punctuality, and ethical values, which develops the personality of an individual, he said.

Appreciating the cultural performances of the student artists, the DySP said that Islands’ students are very talented and are in no way inferior to their counterparts in mainland. Shri Lakshya Pandey had special words for the performance, depicting the concept of unity in diversity of India and also the beautiful Rangotsav presentation done by the students of different houses. The guest of honour, the Gram Pradhan Shri Biplab Mondal, the special invitee the Zila Parishad member Smti Aporna Biswas and the Principal of GSSS Subhas gram Shri M. Nehru also gave away the prizes to the winners of the different sporting events.

Individual Championship of senior boys was bagged by Sanjay Tirkey of ‘Paget House’, while Ishika Roy of ‘Ross house’ was declared the best athlete among girls. The ‘Red’-Ross House was awarded the champion’s trophy for the best all round performance.

Earlier in the morning’s inaugural session the Chief Guest, Executive Engineer, Shri D.R.R.Sidappa, the Guest of Honour, the SHO Diglipur, Shri Vikas SIngh, The Deputy Education officer Shri R.P Pandey and Shri Satyajit Baidya, PTA Vice chairman felicitated the veteran retired teachers of the zone, Shri Motilal Das, HM(P), Shri K.P Paul, HM(P) and Shri Subal Biswas(PET) for their outstanding contribution in the field of Education during their service tenures.

Impressive march past, spectacular aerobics performances, cultural dances, fancy dress programmes and amazing yoga skills left the audience mesmerised, which turned out in very large numbers to watch the 8th Annual Athletics meet of the Govt. Model Senior Secondary School at Vivekananda Stadium today.
