Port Blair, Jan. 10: The Department of Botany, JNRM has adopted Sippighat Village in April 2022 on a long-term basis. The adoption program, which is part of the non-audit course for M.Sc. students, is prescribed by Pondicherry University. On 9th January, as part of the adoption program, the M.Sc. 1st & 2nd Year Students of the Botany Department visited Sippighat village and organized a range of activities like plantation of medicinal trees and demonstrations of the importance of herbal medicine in daily life.

A workshop on poster making on scientific themes viz. Clean Earth, Green Earth etc. was organized for the children of the village. They were also shown a number of simple biological experiments in order to instill scientific curiosity in them. The children enthusiastically participated in the workshop. The program was attended by Smt. Jyothi, Pradhan, Shri Mohd. Abdul Abid, Panchayat Secretary, Sanitary Workers, students and villagers of Gram Panchayat Sippighat. Faculty members Smti Rashmi Janak and Ms. Shalini of the Botany Department, JNRM were present on the occasion.
