DG Police Lauds the Services Rendered by the A&N Police Towards the Wellbeing of the Society

Port Blair, Jan. 16: On the occasion of 71st Raising Day, Andaman & Nicobar Police organized a Ceremonial Parade on 16th January, 2023, at Police Line Parade Ground. Shri Naveen Kumar, Assistant Commandant (IRBn) of A & N Police who was the ceremonial Parade Commander, presented the salute to the Shri Neeraj Thakur IPS, Director General of Police, A&N Islands.

The Director General in his address conveyed his greetings to the members of A&N Police & their families. He lauded the services rendered by A&N Police towards the wellbeing of the society and highlighted the major achievements of A&N Police force in the past one year.

In the past one year, 28 Police Officers were honoured with various medals and prizes. Departmental promotions to 101 deserving Police Personnel including Fire, PMF, Communication & IRBn from the rank of Constable to Inspector were awarded and 905 personnel were granted MACP. Many other welfare measures like re-instatement from suspension of police personnel, speedy finalization of Departmental proceedings and timely settlement of medical claims were also taken up in the administrative measures.  Police Sub-Inspector Regina Kiro has brought laurels to the Andaman and Nicobar Police Force by winning 01 gold medal in Kayaking and 02 bronze medals in Canoeing in the 36th National Games held in Gujarat.

On the enforcement front, during the year nearly 17,000 Traffic Challans were issued. Apart from this, more than 2000 persons were booked under drunken driving. In 2022, Fires Services Unit attended 223 calls & saved property worth more that Rs.85 crore. Further, a strict vigil over the illegal activities like bootlegging, drug peddling, poaching activities etc., has been kept around the clock for maintaining law & order in these Islands. During the year many training programmes were conducted related to First Aid, Fire Fighting and Disaster Preparedness for students, teachers and general public.

Highlighting the challenges before the Police Department, the DGP, A&N Islands encouraged the staff to discharge their duties with utmost dedication, sincerity and exhibit greater professionalism, transparency, integrity and sensitivity in their functioning in order to effectively serve the people of A&N Islands.
