Port Blair, Jan 18: The A & N Police is organising week long programme from 16th to 23rd January 2023 to celebrate the Police Raising Week. On 18th January, 2023 an “At Home Function” was organized at Police Lines, in which Admiral D K Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd.), Hon'ble Lieutenant Governor of Andaman & Nicobar Islands, graced the occasion alongwith Hon’ble Justice Subhasis Dasgupta and Hon’ble Justice Saugata Bhattacharya (Calcutta High Court Circuit Bench at Port Blair).

Lt. Gen Ajai Singh, AVSM, Commander-in-Chief, Andaman Nicobar Command, Shri Keshav Chandra, IAS, Chief Secretary, A&N Administration and other dignitaries from A&N Administration, Armed Forces, Member of Electronic & Print media were also present. The guests were welcomed by Sh Neeraj Thakur, Director General of Police, ANI.

The history of A&N Police dates back to the year 1875, when an organized police force was established in Andaman & Nicobar Islands to deal with crime and criminals. In the year 1924, the Civil Police Force was formed as a separate branch under the control of a Commandant. After Independence, it on 16th January, 1953, Mr. Naushirwan Feroz Sauntook, the first IPS officer took over the charge of the Superintendent of Police from Shri M. Macfarland. Since, then this day is celebrated every year as the "Raising Day" of Andaman & Nicobar Police.

On the occasion, Hon’ble Lt. Governor greeted the police personnel and lauded the effort of the entire police force in making the Islands crime free. He appreciated the work of all the ranks of the A&N Police who were putting day and night for the safety and security of the citizens of A&N Islands.

The occasion was made pleasant with the euphonious music played by the Brass and Pipe Band of A&N Police.
