Port Blair, Feb 10: Nagarpalika Swachhtha Karmachari Sangh (NSKS) an affiliated service association of Andaman Nicobar Rajya Karmachari Mahasangh (ANRKM), BMS had appealed for a dharna in front of the Gate of Port Blair Municipal Council to press the demands submitted by the association for early redressal since 2021.

The demands raised by NSKS were to regularise the Casual labourers, grant of 1/30th to all Muster roll employees, creation of posts after expansion of Municipal area from 21sq km. to 42 sqkm in 2015, Sanction of bonus to all working employees as per the eligibility determined by the Ministry of Finance, establishment of Sanitary sections with all basic amenities such as Drinking water, toilets etc., timely issuance of brooms, safety gears gum boot etc., sanction of one month’s salary as honorarium to all sanitary workers who were served tirelessly during the COVID pandemic.

On hearing the demise message of Shri. K. L. Manikandan, Vice President, ANRKM, a two-minute silence was observed with Shanthi Pat.

Shri. Sanjeev Kumar, Joint Secretary, NSKS welcomed all present gathering and committee members & briefed about the issues. The Dharna was addressed by Shri. Santosh, Treasurer, NSKS in Telugu and Shri. Subramanian, Joint Secretary addressed the gathering in Tamil which was applauded by the present members as their voice.

Later on slogans were raised continuously and Shri. G. Anoop, Organising Secretary, ANRKM, Shri. Vijay Kumar, Vice President, ANRKM, Shri. S. Biju Pillai, General Secretary, ANRKM, Shri. Jaydeep Kumar Dey, President, ANRKM and Shri. M. Veeranna, State President, BMS were addressed the gathering. 

The Dharna were attended by large number of workers from all wards and as it was the emotion of the working class of PBMC, which made it a success. Specially the female employees were attended in majority. The Dharna concluded with the resolution that within 15 days if no concrete action is seen from the part of PBMC, next severe demonstration or broom / tools down will be organised.
