Port Blair, Feb 20: The Directorate of Disaster Management, A&N Administration in coordination with the District Administrations recently conducted a 12 days Disaster Management Trainings under ‘Up-scaling Aapda Mitra Scheme’ of National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) in South Andaman and North & Middle Andaman Districts. During the training, 191 community volunteers provided basic skills training for responding to their community's immediate needs during and in the aftermath of a disaster. These trained volunteers can assist in saving lives using the basic techniques of disaster response, coordination and management.

The Director (Disaster Management), Dr. Nitin Shakya interacted with the Trained Aapda Mitra Volunteers of South Andaman Districts today and reviewed the skills they had gained in the Disaster Management training programme. Further, the Aapda Mitra of South Andaman have been directed to prepare their own group of 15 to 20 members in their vicinity and train them to deal with any crisis/emergencies. They have also been invited to participate in the upcoming mock drills scheduled for cinema theatres and hotels and in the ‘Swasthya Doot’ DM Training programmes.
