Port Blair, March 3: The Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India, in collaboration with SPIC MACAY, Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst the Youth, is organizing cultural programmes under the umbrella of ‘Shruti Amrut’ as part of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ across the country. ‘Shruti Amrut’ festival is a minimum of 2 days long festival with Indian Classical Music and dance and Folk art forms from across the Country.   

‘Shruti Amrut’ festival will be organized by the Ministry of Culture in collaboration with SPIC MACAY and Directorate of Art & Culture, A&N Administration at Dr B R Ambedkar Auditorium, Dollygunj, Port Blair on March 4 & 5. The programme will be held from 4 pm onwards on both the days. The Hon’ble Member of Parliament, A&N Islands, Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma will be the chief guest of the programme on March 4, 2023.

Baul Singer Parvathy Baul and Sattriya Dancer, Anwesa Mahanta will be performing tomorrow (March 4).

Baul Singer Parvathy Baul: Parvathy Baul is a practitioner, performer and teacher of the Baul tradition from Bengal, India. She is also an instrumentalist, storyteller and painter. She has performed in over forty countries. The depth of her mesmerizing performance is rooted in her deep spiritual practice. It is described by critics as “riveting” and “spellbinding.”  Parvathy’s performance work emerges from a long lineage of master Baul singers, dancers, and spiritual teachers. Recognizing her unbroken commitment to the tradition, the Government of India conferred upon her the most esteemed Sangeet Natak Akademi award in the year 2019. It is the highest Indian recognition given to practicing artists.

Sattriya Dancer, Anwesa Mahanta: Belonging to the Vaisnava monastery of Assam, Sattra, Anwesa Mahanta started her formal lessons in Sattriya from her early childhood under the guidance of the eminent maestro and a Sangeet Natak Akademi Awardee Bayanacharya Ghanakanta Bora. Anwesa has been learning, researching and interpreting Sattriya dance, music and theatre since two decades. Anwesa has been pursuing dance, not merely as a pastime but as a chosen path of her growing and devotional journey. She has carved a space in the Sattriya Dance world with her understandings, research, interpretations and outstanding performances drawing applause and appreciation from both the media and the art cognoscenti and established an unfailing record of excellence in her performance career.
