Port Blair, March 5: The Jal Jeevan Mission is a Central Government initiative to ensure sustainable 100% Functional Household Tap Connection (FHTC) to rural households in India. It is being implemented in A&N Islands by the Andaman Public Works Department. Andaman Nicobar State Water and Sanitation Mission (ANSWSM) is the Nodal Agency for implementation of this scheme in the UT.

Mass mobilisation and greater public awareness is essential to ensure sustainability of efforts in this direction. Accordingly, the Andaman and Nicobar State Water and Sanitation Mission (ANSWSM) with the support of APWD has invited nominations for various contests under ‘Jal Jeevan Mission’ for participation by general public, firms, groups, art clubs, Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), Youth Clubs, companies and Gram Panchayats for greater awareness on the various components of Jal Jeevan Mission.

In this regard, ANSWSM will be conducting various competition/contest viz. Poster making Contest, Poem/ Slogan competition, Model Making and Selection of ‘al Doot’ for each District.

For Poster making Contest the themes are i) Swachh Sujal Pradesh, ii) Green energy from sustainable water, iii) Rain Water Harvesting and iv) Community participation from ‘Har Ghar Jal’. The competition is open to all and the cash prizes for the 1st, 2nd & 3rd prize winners are Rs. 10000/-, Rs. 5000/- & Rs. 3000/- respectively. The last date for submission is 15.03.23. The general terms and rules for participation is that only one entry allowed per person. The minimum size of the poster should be 18 x 24 inch. (Poster Making Contest). Participation Certificates shall be issued to Top 5 participants and the participants shall mention Name, address, contact /mobile number, along with the photograph/ poster in hard copy.

Similarly, an open to all Poem/ Slogan competition will be organized on the theme/topic viz. i) Water Conservation, ii) Swachh Jal and iii) Sustainable water supply. The cash prizes for the 1st, 2nd & 3rd prize winners are Rs.5000/, Rs.2500/- and Rs.1500/- respectively. The last date for submission is 15.03.23. The general terms and rules for this competition are: only one entry allowed per person. The Poem/Slogan must be one’s own idea and compilation (If the jury finds similarity in the poem or slogan submitted by the participants with previously published slogans/ poems then these are liable not to be considered in the contest). The poem shall be restricted to a maximum of 100 words. Participation Certificates shall be issued to Top 05 participants. The participants shall mention Name, address, contact/mobile number, along with the Poem/Slogan in hard copy.

The topic for Model Making Competition is ‘Safe & Sustainable Water Supply’ which is open to all. The prizes for the 1st, 2nd & 3rd prize winners are Rs.10000/, Rs.5000/- & Rs.2000/ respectively. The last date for submission is 15.03.23. The general terms and rules for this competition is that only one entry allowed per person. In case of remote Islands, Model can be submitted to respective Sub-divisional office of APWD and a video along with 5 Nos good quality Photographs from different angles must be submitted online for consideration of their participation and evaluation on or before 15.03.23 to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Material such as Thermocol, Card board, locally available bamboo or other similar materials can be used for making models. All Models must be durable enough to get transported to Port Blair or nearest Jal Shakti Kendra of each districts. Participation Certificates shall be issued to top 5 participants. The participants shall mention Name, address, contact /mobile number, along with the   submitted Models.

The entries for Poster Making, Poem/Slogan and Model Making may be submitted directly to the Director, ANSWSM, Chief Engineer’s Office, APWD or at respective Divisional Offices of Executive Engineers of APWD outside Port Blair Tehsil. The entries can also be submitted to the Executive Engineer, PHED, Prothrapur for Port Blair Tehsil. The topic for the Selection of ‘Jal Doot’ for each District is ‘Active role in exploration, development, protection and conservation of water resources and related matter.’ The competition is open to all and the cash prize is Rs. 5000/-. The last date for submission is 15.03.23. The entries in the form of  background details of work done backed by good quality photograph in  the field of the mentioned Theme/Topic along with recommendation  of Village Water and  Sanitation Committee (VWSC) of the concerned and duly forwarded through Block Development Officer/ Executive Engineer looking after rural water supply  may be submitted in CD/DVD to the Director, ANSWSM, Chief Engineer’s office, APWD or at respective Divisional Offices of   Executive Engineers of  APWD outside Port Blair Tehsil . The entries can also be made to the Executive Engineer, PHED, Prothrapur for Port Blair Tehsil. The submission confirmation be e-mailed to This email address is being protected from spambots. The background note shall include details of work done (in hard /soft copy) with good quality photograph either in Hindi/English in minimum 3 A4 size papers divided in these sections: a) Introduction, b) intervention, c) Results/conclusion, d) Beneficiary area / household /population, e) Recommendation.     Participation Certificates shall be issued to top 5 participants.  The winner shall be selected as ‘Jal Doot’ for next one year for organizing public awareness program under respective tehsil and awarded monthly honorarium.
