Port Blair, March 5: On 4th March 2023, Smt. Veditha Reddy, IAS, Secretary (RD/Panchayat) along with Shri. Dilkhush Meena, IAS, ADM, South Andaman, Shri. Azharuddin Zahiruddin Quazi, IAS, SDM, South Andaman and Shri. Aditaya Kumar Asthana, Director (RD/Panchayat) visited the Gram Panchayat Wandoor and Gram Panchayat Humfrygunj for inspection of MGNREGA works, Amrit Sarovars, RURBAN works and Solid Waste Management Cluster. The PRI members of both the Gram Panchayats, Panchayat Officials and Block staff were also present during the visit.

During the inspection of MGNREGA road work and Amrit Sarovars work taken up under MGNREGA, the beneficiaries requested the Secretary (RD/Panchayat) to look into the matter of release of pending wages. The Secretary (RD/Panchayat) assured the beneficiaries that matter has been taken up with the Ministry of Rural Development for release of fund and wages will be released soon.

Two RURBAN Mission works, namely Fish Market at Wandoor Beach and Veterinary Dispensary near Gram Panchayat office Wandoor, were also inspected by the Secretary (RD/Panchayat). Directions were issued to make wide publicity of fish market for proper utilisation of the asset. Regarding under construction Veterinary Dispensary, the Engineering Wing was given direction to complete the work by 31stMarch, 2023.

The Secretary also visited the Wandoor beach and inspected the cleanliness condition of the beach. As per the request of the PRIs, the Secretary issues direction to make a Beach Development Committee consisting of officials of Tourism dept, RD & Panchayat dept, Forest dept and APWD to come up with innovative ideas for proper development of beach with entertainment facilities to attract a greater number of tourists.

Then the inspection of Solid Waste Management Cluster at Wandoor was done and it was seen that the waste collecting vendor is not taking away the waste from the SWM Cluster site on regular basis. Lots of waste was dumped at Cluster. The Secretary directed to take immediate action for removing and transportation of bailed waste to mainland by the vendor.

After completion of inspections, the Secretary (RD/Panchayat) laid down the foundation stone for construction of “Rural Road from Ramesh Mahato house Soniya Nagar to Netaji Colony” at Dhanikhari Ward No. II under Gram Panchayat Humfrygunj in the presence of the ADM, SDM, Director (RD/Panchayat), BDO, Ferrargunj, Pradhan, Humfrygunj & PRI members of the area. The construction of road is expected to complete in 12 months and will benefit 50-60 families of the area. The Secretary (RD/Panchayat) directed the Engineering wing to ensure completion of work in time bound manner.
