Lt. Governor and Chief Secretary Congratulates the Awardees

Port Blair, March 5: To mark the International Women’s Day and with an attempt to shine a spotlight on some incredible women leaders who have contributed to transformational change in their community, villages and panchayats, the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Govt. of India organized a National event at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi on 4th March, 2023 to give away the first ever Swachh Sujal Shakti Samman Awards. Smti. Draupadi Murmu, Hon’ble President of India was the distinguished Chief Guest on the occasion. Programme was also graced by Sh. Gajendra Singh Shekawat, Hon’ble Minister of Jal Shakti; Sh. Prahlad Singh Patel, Hon’bleMoS (Jal Shakti and Food Processing Industries); Sh. Bishweswar Tudu, Hon’ble MoS (Jal Shakti and Tribal Welfare); Sh. Devusinh Chauhan, Hon’bleMoS (Communications); Ms. Vini Mahajan, Secretary, Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation and Sh. Pankaj Kumar, Secretary, Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation.

During the function, 02 individuals namely – Ms. Dulari Kujur, Swachhagrahi attached to GP-Rampur and Ms. Hemlatha Mondal, Anganwadi Worker attached to GP-Madhupur from the UT of Andaman and Nicobar Islands were presented the prestigious award for their proactive role in implementation of Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen) in the UT. Ms.DulariKujur was conferred with the award for her work in the category of Plastic  Waste Management, while Hemlatha Mondal was given the award for her  work in the Grey Water Management sector under Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen).

When activities of the Swachh Bharat Mission commenced in her village, Ms. Dulari Kujur was keen to participate in cleaningup her Rampur GP. Her duties consisted of collection of waste from Karmatang village, transporting it to the Solid Waste Management centres and segregation of the same in different categories to assist in the recycling process.  

Hemlatha Mondal has been engaged as Anganwadi Worker since last 9 years Having started work at an early stage, she was respected for her outstanding social work. Her sincerity and hard work led to the ODF Plus declaration of her Gram Panchayat. In the course of her work, she visited every home in the Gram Panchayat to convey them the importance constructing soak pits for scientifically managing Grey Water and advise how to maintain them.

The Hon’ble Lt. Governor, A&N Islands and Chief Secretary, Andaman and Nicobar Administration has congratulated the awardees and exhorted for continued engagement with community for overall development of the Islands and implementation of the programmes of the Government.
