Port Blair, March 26: The Andaman & Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee on Sunday organized "Sankalp Satyagraha" at Gandhi Statue, Aberdeen Bazaar in support of Rahul Gandhi following his disqualification from the Lok Sabha.
ANTCC President Mr. Rangalal Halder, ANTCC Campaign Committee Chairman, Mr. G Bhasker and Hon'ble Member of Parliament, A&N Islands, Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma led the protest and expressed their solidarity with Rahul Gandhi.
The Congress leaders condemned Rahul Gandhi's disqualification and called it a conspiracy by the Modi government to eliminate the opposition in the country. They shouted slogans against the Modi Government and alleged that there is no freedom of speech under the BJP regime.
Speaking on the occasion Mr. Rangalal Halder said that disqualifying Rahul Gandhi from the Lok Sabha cannot suppress the voice of common people. This kind of act is an attempt to throttle democracy in the country.
"Though Surat court gave a month to Rahul Gandhi to challenge the sentence in a higher court, the Modi government acted in haste to disqualify him within 24 hours", he alleged.
He added that the BJP is afraid of the increasing popularity and support for Rahul Gandhi among the public after the Bharat Jodo Yatra.
Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma said the decision to terminate Rahul Gandhi's Lok Sabha membership was taken to suppress his voice because he was raising the issue of corruption done in connivance between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and industrialist Gautam Adani.
He added "Rahul Gandhi is not afraid of anybody and will continue to raise the voice of the poor in this country as Rahul Gandhi is someone whose grandmother and father sacrificed their lives for the sake of the nation.
Mr. G Bhasker said that Rahul Gandhi was targeted as he was exposing the loot of public wealth by Adani with support from the Modi government. The prime minister maintained silence on the Adani issue but action was taken against Rahul Gandhi, who has been constantly raising the voice of the people of India.
"The people of the country understand the conspiracy of BJP and will teach a lesson to them in the 2024 elections. Each and every Congress workers of Andaman & Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee is standing with Rahul Gandhi", he added.
