Port Blair, April 4: The Member of Parliament, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested immediate intervention of Minister of Road Transport and Highways, GoI in the matter of delay in construction work of Middle Strait Bridge.

In a letter addressed to the Minister of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), the Member of Parliament mentioned that the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL) undertook the construction of a 1.9 km bridge at Middle Strait Creek nearly three years ago, with a completion target of September 2022. However, as of now, the construction work remains incomplete, with about 30% of the work finished.

He added that there has been no progress in the construction of the bridge in the last three months.

“Earlier, around 100s of labourers used to work on the construction site, but now only three labourers are present, which has left the islanders disappointed,” he said.

He mentioned that the people of Andaman & Nicobar Islands are eagerly waiting for the completion of this bridge as the Middle Strait remains busy in ATR, with thousands of vehicles being ferried to the both sides every day, making it a time-consuming and expensive affair for the government.
