Port Blair, April 10: The A&N State Under 17 Chess Selection Championship 2023 which began at JNRM College Auditorium Port Blair concluded on 9th April 2023. The event was organised by Andaman Nicobar Chess Association in association with Kannada Sangha, Port Blair.

Shri. Venkatesan, HoD, Home Science, JNRM and Shri. Narasimha Moorthy, Asst. Commandant, IRBN were the special guests for the inaugural session of second day of play today morning. Shri. Venkatesan, HoD, Home Science JNRM declared the second day games open.

Dr. Naveen Achaiah, representative of Kannada Sangha, Port Blair was the Chief guest for the closing ceremony while Smti. Geetha Naveen Bhat, President, Kannada Sangha, Port Blair was the guest honour. They gave away the prizes & certificates to the winners.

Around 120 players have participated passionately in the two-day state level Under 17 (Open & Girls) chess Championship 2023  in which R Kashthuri Bhai, a student of GDMS Port Blair clinched the Championship Trophy of Under 17 Open category and remained undefeated in the championship. Yuvan Singh of Carmel School secured second position, M A Dinakar, of Kamaraj English medium secured third position, Rohan Singh of Carmel School stood fourth and A Chirag Kumar of Naval Children School secured fifth position.

Similarly, in Under 17 Girls Category, Kavya Raj of Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya secured first position, Chittiboina Mageswari of Govt. Model School Port Blair stood second, Tanisha Raj of VKV Lambaline secured third position, S Vidhya of Kamaraj English medium secured fourth position and B Kavya of Nirmala School secured fifth position. The Top five players in Under 17 Open and Girls have been awarded with Trophies, cash prize and certificates.

The best two players each in Under 17 Open & Girls categories are eligible for the upcoming MPL 33rd National U-17 Chess Championship–2023 scheduled to be held from 1st May to 9th May 2023 at Jalandhar, Punjab as normal entry from Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

Apart from Under 17 Category, three best players each in boys and girls from Under 07, Under 09, Under 11 and Under 13 were also awarded with trophies and certificates. The details are as below:
