Port Blair, June 11: The Port Blair City Area Committee of the CPI (M) has conducted a week-long door-to-door campaign and corner meetings at Haddo, Buniyadabad and Dairy Farm areas of Port Blair town against the curtailment of drinking water, electricity cut at Port Blair and rural South Andaman areas and price rise.

During the campaign, leaders of CPI (M) highlighted the failure of the BJP-led central government and its Administration and BJP-ruled Port Blair Municipal Council and Congress MP from the islands to provide water and electricity to the people even as the water supply was only once in six days and there was 6 to 7 hours’ power cut daily.  They said that it was due to lack of planning and absence of democratic governance in the islands that such a situation has arisen. CPI (M) leaders criticized the   MP from the islands for not protesting against the curtailment of water and power cut.

Addressing the corner meetings, CPI (M) leaders blamed the BJP-led central government and BMC for neglecting the hardship of the people and warned that people will react at the appropriate time.

D Ayyappan, Secretary, State Orgnaising Committee, D. Laxman Rao, State Secretariat Member, SP Kalairajan, State Committee Member, NKP Nair, Port Blair Area Committee Member and KG Samkutty of Haddo Branch addressed the corner meetings.
