Port Blair, June 15: Communist Party of India (Marxist) has demanded to carry out the pre-school opening renovation/repair works on the school buildings, etc. during the summer vacation period with the help of elected representatives, SMCs, PTAs, service associations of teachers, etc. from the next academic session onwards.   In a letter sent to the Director of Education, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, D. Ayyappan, Secretary, CPI (M) A & N State Organising Committee drew the attention of the Education Department to the dilapidated condition of a large number of school buildings in these islands.  Ayyappan told the Director of Education that during his visit to various outstations, people of the concerned area have urged him to take up the matter with the Education Department about the urgent need to carry out repair and renovation of the school buildings.

CPI (M) Secretary said that the schools in these islands have been closed for summer vacation from 26th April, 2023, to be re-opened on 26th June, 2023.  The summer vacation period is normally utilized for carrying out the renovation and repairs of the school buildings and teachers’ quarters, etc. However, as per information received by us, no repair/ renovation works of the school buildings in an effective manner are being carried out by the APWD.

CPI (M) is of the opinion that during the closure of schools for summer vacation, the Education Department should have prepared a plan for renovation/repair of all the school buildings and teachers’ quarters and carried out with the involvement of the community. Ayyappan suggested that involvement of PRIs/Councillors, School Management Committees, PTAs, service associations of teachers, non-governmental organizations, etc. may be ensured for carrying out all the pre-school opening renovation work on the school buildings.  With the involvement/participation of community, such renovation/repair work can be undertaken in an effective manner. CPI (M) requested the Director of Education to issue necessary guidelines/ instructions to the authorities concerned in this regard.
