Port Blair, June 18: A meeting of the Andaman & Nicobar State Organising Committee of the CPI (M) was held at Shaheed Bhavan, Anarkali, Port Blair on 17th June, 2023. Shri G. Ramakrishnan, Polit Bureau Member of the party attended the meeting. The meeting reviewed the political situation prevailing in the islands.

Addressing the meeting, Shri G. Ramakrishnan, Polit Bureau Member said that the BJP is trying to split the people of the country on communal lines and targeting the Muslim minority. Freedom of press is stifled in the country to avoid publishing anything against the misdeeds of the central government and BJP. He said that the BJP is running the government only for the corporate. Acknowledging the massive movement conducted by the CPI (M) in Andaman & Nicobar Islands over the last more than one year on various people’s issues, G. Ramakrishnan said that no other political party in the islands is conducting agitations on issues haunting the islanders.

The meeting of the State Organising Committee has decided to intensify struggles in the Islands on people’s issues like (i) rising unemployment and failure of government to create job (ii) permanent solution for water and electricity problems (iii) land to landless people and regularization of land in favour of those occupying government land from 1991, (iv) price rise, etc. The meeting expressed concern over the establishment of Deemed University in the islands as it will be against the interests of the islanders. The entire higher education in the islands will collapse if the existing colleges are brought under the proposed Deemed University besides denying opportunity of higher education for students from lower strata of society.  The meeting of CPI(M) State Organising Committee also expressed concern over non-implementation of  High Court Division Bench order (Lt Governor –vs- ASNVMS) of 19th December, 2022 on grant of 1/30th pay plus DA to DRMs from September, 2017 and urged  the Lt Governor and central government to implement the said order in letter and spirit.

Shri D. Ayyappan, Secretary, CPI (M) State Organising Committee presented the report. Dr Gouranga Majhi presided over the meeting.
