Port Blair, June 19: The Department of Social Welfare in collaboration with Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Addicts (IRCA) & Police Department will organize 100 awareness programmes in Schools, Colleges and Panchayats of South Andaman District on ‘Ill Effects of Alcohol and Drug Abuse’, from 10th July, 2023 to 27th March 2024 to sensitize the people of these Islands on the peril of addiction and illicit drug trafficking and free our society from the menace of drug abuse under ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan’ campaign. The campaign will focus on prevention by educating individuals about the risks and consequences of drug abuse by providing accurate information and raising awareness. Early intervention through such programmes can also identify individuals at risk and provide necessary support before substance abuse becomes a serious problem.

Prevention plays a vital role in addressing drug abuse, and it starts with education and awareness. By equipping individuals, particularly young people, with the knowledge and skills to make informed decisions, we can empower them to resist the temptations of drugs and lead healthy, fulfilling lives.

The Department of Social Welfare stand united in its commitment to tackle this pressing issue of addiction and illicit drug trafficking by instilling a strong foundation of knowledge, values, and skills. These programmes help create a drug-free culture and promote healthier choices for future generations.
