Port Blair, June 20: ICAR-Central Island Agricultural Research Institute, Port Blair will be celebrating its 46th Foundation Day on 23rd June 2023 at its Garacharma Research complex from 10 am to 12:30 pm.

ICAR-CIARI was established on 23rd June 1978 with the mandate to carry forward the Research and Development activities in the field of Horticulture & Crop Improvement, Fisheries, Animal Science and Natural Resource Management pertaining to Andaman and Nicobar Island with its Regional Station at Minicoy, Lakshadweep. Beside it is supported with three KVKs representing all the three districts of ANI to undertake dissemination of appropriate technologies to the stakeholders in association with line departments of A & N Administration. During its four decades of existence, Institute has contributed significantly to reduce the gap between demand and supply through technological interventions in agriculture and allied fields, commercialization of technologies and entrepreneur’s development.

Ms. Nandini Paliwal, IAS, Commissioner-cum-Secretary, A&N Administration has consented to be the Chief Guest, Dr. C. Sivaperuman, Officer in charge, ZSI, Port Blair and Smt. Archana Singh, General Manager, NABARD, will be Guest of Honours. The Foundation Day lecture on the occasion will be delivered by Dr. T.V.R.S. Sharma Ex. Pr. Scientist & Ex-GB Member, ICAR and Dr.E.B. Chakurkar Director, ICAR-CIARI will preside over the event

The highlight of the programme will be felicitation to the progressive farmers adopting CIARI technologies in agriculture and allied fields and the staff for their significant contributions in their respective fields during the period.
