Port Blair, June 23: The general public have been informed that all households and establishments under the jurisdiction of Port Blair city have to pay a user fee every month towards the waste picked up from their door step. The user charges shall be collected as per the Schedule-III of PBMC’s SWM Bye-laws, 2017 notified by the A&N Administration Gazette vide No. 21/2017/F.No. 3-53/2015-UD-II, dated 16th February, 2017.

For households the rate of user fee is Rs. 50/-, whereas for the commercial and other establishments, it can go up depending upon the quantity of waste they generate. The user charges for street vendors is Rs. 20/- per day, which shall be paid monthly to avoid unnecessary daily approach for payment and keeping the view of ‘Ease of doing business’.

1) Households delivering segregated waste to the sanitary worker: Rs. 50/-

2) Household intends collection & segregation of waste by the sanitary worker: Rs.  1000/-

3) Grocery, departmental and other shops: Rs. 150/-

4) Hotels and Restaurants:                Rs. 500/-

5) Vegetables and meat shops: Rs. 300/-

6) Private and Government establishments: Rs. 300/-

7) Schools & Colleges: Rs. 150/-

8) Others (Commercials): Rs. 50/- to Rs. 100/-

9) Street Vendors: @ Rs. 20/- per day

10) Charges to bulk generator as per cubic meter (CBM) per day: Rs. 300/-

This will be in addition to the Conservancy Tax collected along with the Property Tax every year. The Conservancy Tax is applicable on every individual utilizing the public footpath and roads maintained by Municipal Council. Whereas; the user charges are to be collected from each household for door to door collection of waste specified under SWM RULES-2016 notified by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change vide S.O. 1357 (E), dated 08th April, 2016 and consequent PBMC’s SWM Bye-laws-2017 notified by the A&N Administration.

The user fee will be collected in person or through online payment by PBMC or through CSCs. A surcharge of 5% per month shall be charged if waste generators fail to pay the amount within 3 months.
