Port Blair, June 25: Shri Devesh Chandra Srivastva, IPS (AGMUT : 1995) took over the charge of Director General of Police, Andaman & Nicobar Islands yesterday i.e. June 23, 2023. Welcoming the DGP, A&N Islands, an impressive Ceremonial Parade was presented at Police Lines, Port Blair today i.e. 24/06/2023, consisting of 06 platoons including Executive Police (Male), Executive Police (Female), Fire Service, IRBn, Police Brass Band and All Female Pipe Band. The welcome parade was commanded by Shri Naveen Kumar, Deputy Commandant (IRBn). All senior officers, rank and file were present to witness the Parade.
After inspection of Parade, Sh. Srivastva, the new DGP/A&NI Police in his address lauded the spectacular march past of the Police contingents and emphasized that A&N Police should focus on technological advancements to improve operational efficiency and quick and positive outcomes in police functioning, in sync with the concept of ‘SMART’ Policing, as envisioned by Hon’ble Prime Minister. While acknowledging the geo-strategic significance of A&N Islands and its unique set of challenges, he underlined significance of people's cooperation and public partnership in policing through community-based policing.
The DGP applauded the professionalism, hard work and dedication of A&N Police especially in guarding the maritime boundaries of the country. He made specific mention of Police Stations ranking among the Best Police Stations of the country consistently for last 5 years, a testimony to the excellence of the Police force. He exhorted the police officers/personnel to adopt the new motto of “Nipun (Skilled), Nirbhay (Fearless) and Nishpaksh (Impartial)” in day-to-day policing to deliver ‘Citizen Centric’ Policing to ensure peace and development in the Islands.
He emphasised that the prime job of A&N Police force is to ensure a sense of safety and security among the Islanders and the visitors including domestic and foreign tourists. He stressed upon the continuous improvement and advancement through skill upgradation and use of advanced technological apparatus for investigations to improve quality of delivery in public service. He outlined the use of modern and scientific aid to investigation, safety and security of tourists, coastal security, menace of drug abuse, crime against women and children, capacity building to deal with emergent crimes such as cyber-crime, online financial fraud etc. as some of the priority areas for further improvement.
Concluding his speech, the DGP encouraged the A&N Police personnel to work with devotion and dedication, in order to bring a sense of security/safety and ensure peace and harmony amongst the Islanders.
At the end of the Ceremony, he interacted with the Police personnel and appreciated the sincere efforts put in by them at the grass root level and appealed to them to take it forward with more vigour and zeal.
