Diglipur, June 27: A complaint of theft of 02 cows was registered on 26/06/2023 at PS Rangat. A special team of comprising SI Pankaj Kumar Pandey SHO PS Rangat, SI Silpi Singha, SI Deva Raju, HC Rakesh Kumar, PCs Nisith Das, Sonu Yadav, Santosh Kumar Tiwari & Ct. Subol Bepari of PS Rangat swung into action, conducted extensive search in entire Rangat area. Upon a tip and the team’s tireless effort paid off when 11 Nos. cattle (08 Cows, 02 Bulls & 01 Calf) found in an unhygienic condition without fodder and shelter near Goal Pahar, Rangat.
A person namely Babu Ram Jaidar S/o Late Jagga Jaydar (57) yrs R/o Yeratta, Rangat has been caught red handed while he was handling one of the stolen cows. The complainant identified his stolen cows, and the accused too accepted his guilt. On further interrogation it revealed that the accused have collected cattles which were found roaming unattended like stray cattle at Rangat area for the purpose of smuggling them to Port Blair through water or road means on demand. Accordingly, a case vide Crime No. 47/23 dated 26/06/23 U/s 379 IPC r.w.s 34(2) of Police Act, 1861 and section 11(1)(d)(f)(h)(k) of Prevention of Cruelty to Animal Act, 1960 was registered and all the cattle were seized from the spot followed by medical examination. It is also come to light that if, these cattle were not detected, he could have transported all the cattle for ill motive to Port Blair within one or two days, as some purchasers were in regular contact with him. This is the third time within a period of one month that North and Middle Andaman Police cracked cow smuggling case.
The successful crackdown on this theft and cow smuggling not only serves as a deterrent to such illicit activities but also sends a strong message that the North & Middle Andaman District Police will not tolerate any form of cruelty towards animals.
