Port Blair, July 2: As part of World Environment Day celebrations, a “Swachhata Pakhwada-2023” was conducted by Andaman and Nicobar Command (ANC). The event kick started with a “Mass Swachhta Shramdan Campaign” by personnel of ANC at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Dweep from 25th Jun to 30 Jun 23 to foster a sense of responsibility towards the environment.

Approximately 200 personnel volunteered in a cleanliness drive in line with the theme of World Environment Day 2023 ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’. The personnel cleaned the surroundings and coast lines of the NSCB Dweep in this mega clean up drive. The programme saw enthusiastic participation wherein 300 kgs of waste includIing plastic bottles were collected thereby restoring the pristine beauty of the Island. The main focus of this drive was to spread awareness among people about the effects of dumping plastic in ocean waters as these are dangerous to marine life. Various studies have suggested how the use of plastic can cause harm to marine biodiversity and human health.

The personnel also took a pledge to maintain high standards of community hygiene in their life.
