Port Blair, July 3: The densely populated Phongy Kyong in the heart of the city, with narrow lanes and congested access has always been under major threat of natural and manmade calamities. There are around 2500 people viz. 470 families in a tiny area. Considering the unforeseen threat that may arise due to a fire outbreak, the Ward Councillor of the area, Shri Azizur Rahman had put forth the suggestion to cover the entire area using Fire Water Hydrant Pipelines before the Port Blair Municipal Council.

As a result of his persistent efforts in the direction, a team from the PBMC led by the Chairperson, Smti. S. Selvi, Secretary, Shri. Dilkush Meena (IAS) and PBMC officers today visited Phongy Kyong, Ward No. 6 to inspect the area in relation to the laying of fire water hydrant pipelines.
