Port Blair, July 4: The Member of Parliament, A&N Islands, Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested the Hon’ble Lt. Governor, A&N Islands to issue suitable compensation for the flash flood-affected people of Middle Andaman.
In a letter addressed to the Lt. Governor, the Member of Parliament said that on the intervening night of July 1st and 2nd, 2023, heavy rain and high tide resulted in a flash flood in several villages of Middle Andaman causing significant damage and losses to villagers.
He mentioned that several families have reported the distressing experience of water entering their homes, leading to property damage in some cases. Additionally, many have suffered losses due to crop damage and other related reasons. Many families of Middle Andaman have borne the brunt of these losses.
In light of the hardships endured by the villagers, the Member of Parliament requested the Lt. Governor to direct the revenue department to conduct a thorough assessment of the losses incurred by the affected residents in Middle Andaman as a result of the flash flood. He also requested to release suitable compensation to the affected people of Middle Andaman.
