Port Blair, July 10: The Department of Social Welfare in collaboration with Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Addicts (IRCAs) & the Police Department is organizing a series of 100 awareness programmes on ‘Ill Effects of Alcohol and Drug Abuse’ under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan campaign as per the approved Calendar of Activities with effect from 10th July, 2023.

Accordingly, awareness programmes for students and teachers were held at Govt. Model Sr. Sec. School, Port Blair today in which 110 students and teachers were sensitized during the programme.

The resource persons, Dr. M.K.Mahato from IRCA highlighted the health issues related to consumption of alcohol and drugs while Shri Vinit Kumar Maurya, SI from Police Department enlightened the students on NDPS Act and how they could avoid/identify the peddlers and stay safe. Shri A.K.Biswas, Nodal Officer, Prohibition of Social Welfare Department highlighted the issues and problems of drugs among the youth in society. Swamy Shri Hari Padananda from Bharat Sevashram Sangha spoke on benefits of Yoga and how one can come out of addiction through spirituality.

The resource persons requested the students and teachers to join the campaign in making Andaman & Nicobar Islands ‘Drug Free’. They also stressed on the need to create awareness and educate students about the ill effects of alcohol & drug abuse on an individual, family, work place and society at large.

Earlier, Dr. Pushpavalli, Principal In-Charge, Govt. Model Sr. Sec. School in her welcome address expressed happiness for organizing such awareness programme for students and teachers.

The second programme in the series of 100 awareness programmes will be held at Govt. Boys Sr. Sec. School, Port Blair on July 12, 2023.
