Car Nicobar, July 10: Disaster Management Trainings were organized by the Directorate of Disaster Management in coordination with District Administration, Nicobar, Indian Coast Guard (A&N) and 04 Bn, National Disaster Response Force from June 26 to July 8, 2023. The trainings organized for Community Volunteers (Aapda Mitras) of Car Nicobar and Nancowry Islands under Up-scaling of Aapda Mitra Scheme concluded on July 8 in the Community Hall of Perka, Car Nicobar and Emergency Operation Centre, Kamorta respectively.

At Car Nicobar, Shri Hari Kallikkat, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Nicobar District was the chief guest on the occasion. He appreciated the efforts of all participants and Tribal Council of Nicobar District for their keenness in Disaster Management Training. He elaborated on the importance of community involvement in disaster management activities and trainings which equip the volunteers to respond to any disaster/crisis and assist the authorities in managing disasters. He also lauded the efforts of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team for the successful completion of Disaster Management Training of Aapda Mitra (Volunteers) of Car Nicobar by training them with various lifesaving skills, to support the community as well as the Administration. The chief guest and Officers of District Administration, Nicobar distributed DM Training Course Completion Certificates and Identity Cards to all the trained Community Volunteers (Aapda Mitra).

At Kamorta, Shri Shiv Singh Meena, Assistant Commissioner, Nancowry was the chief guest. He appreciated the initiative of National Disaster Management Authority and Directorate of Disaster Management for implementation of Up-scaling of Aapda Mitra Scheme in the Sub-Division and for training the Community Volunteers as ‘Aapda Mitra’ through the resource persons of Indian Coast Guard (A&N) and National Disaster Response Force. He urged all trained Volunteers (Aapda Mitra) to inculcate lifesaving skills/trainings in their community further to build disaster preparedness at grass root & community level. Certificates and Identity cards were distributed to all trained volunteers.
