Port Blair, July 10: CPI (M) has demanded to restore the water supply at Port Blair town and rural South Andaman areas to the pre-curtailment period when water was supplied on alternate days.  In a letter sent to the Chief Secretary, Andaman & Nicobar Administration, D. Ayyappan, Secretary, CPI (M) A & N State Organising Committee stated that the water supply to the Port Blair town and rural South Andaman areas was curtailed in the month of April - May, 2023 with the dip in the water level at Dhanikhari Dam during the summer season.  With the arrival of the south-west monsoon, the water level in the Dhanikhari Dam has risen considerably, touching 59 metres on 10th July, 2023.

CPI (M) Secretary told Chief Secretary that water is being supplied once in 4 days in the Port Blair town and rural South Andaman areas despite the fact that the water level in the Dhanikhari Dam has increased considerably.  Ayyappan requested the Chief Secretary to direct the authorities concerned to restore the water supply to alternate days.
