Port Blair, July 10: The Member of Parliament, Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested the Hon’ble Defence Minister of India to conduct regular recruitment rallies in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

In a letter written to the Defence Minister of India, the Member of Parliament said that a considerable number of youths from the Andaman & Nicobar Islands have demonstrated their unwavering commitment by serving or presently serving in the various ranks and levels of our esteemed defence forces. In the past Andaman & Nicobar Islands witnessed multiple recruitment rallies conducted throughout the year in the Islands, catering to different wings and specialized fields.

He said that these recruitment rallies provided our talented candidates with a remarkable opportunity to participate and subsequently secure positions in the defence forces, leading to a life filled with pride and honour.

He pointed out that over the past many years, it has become increasingly evident that the number of recruitment drives organized by the defence forces, encompassing the Army, Navy and Air Force has significantly declined.

“This trend has had a profound impact on the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, exacerbating the prevalent issue of unemployment in our region. Defence service has traditionally been an attractive sector for aspiring individuals from our Islands, offering them the chance to serve our nation with immense pride. However, the diminishing number of recruitment drives has severely limited this avenue, hampering the dreams and aspirations of our talented youth,” said the MP.

In light of this pressing concern the Member of Parliament requested the Defence Minister of India to direct the respective wings of the Indian Army, Indian Navy and Indian Air Force to conduct regular recruitment rallies in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

“By doing so, we would not only provide a dignified and respectable profession to the deserving youth of Andaman and Nicobar Islands but also grant them a rare opportunity to serve our great nation,” he added.
