Port Blair, July 21: It was all smiles and laughter around when 18 residents of Old Age Homes got an opportunity to spend some time out in the open, exploring the beach and concluding the trip with lunch in a garden amidst a wide range of plants.

When Port Blair Guru Ki Rasoi (PBGKR) was requested to arrange for an outing for the seniors by the Directorate of Social Welfare, A&N Administration, the team PBGKR readily accepting the request, arranged for transporting the seniors from Ferrargunj to Corbyn’s Cove Beach. It had been a long time when the not so privileged seniors had an outing. The seniors enjoyed the waves as it caressed their feet pressed into the wet sand. A refreshing experience it was to see them smile again.

The team PBGKR later took them to Bageecha- an initiative by Andaman Chronicle to bring people closer to nature, where lunch was sponsored and served by few well-meaning members of the society. At Bageecha, the seniors were provided lunch, sponsored by Shri Santosh Kumar or Palmgrove Eco Resort and also got an opportunity to test their talents over a Kareoke system. A series of song numbers were presented to the seniors, creating a festive atmosphere. The seniors moved around the Bageecha, checking and feeling the plant saplings, while expressing a sense of peace and satisfaction.

The seniors also got an opportunity to express their feelings wherein they had a word of praise for the kind gesture of the A&N Administration, especially the Director of Social Welfare, Dr. Nitin Shakya and Shri A.K. Biswas who had personally visited Bageecha to spend some quality time with them.

Shri Mandeep Greval, President, PBGKR in his message said, “Serving humanity is the most blessed thing a person can do, while being in this world. I am grateful to the A&N Administration, Bageecha and all those humble souls who came forward to make the day eventful and meaningful for the seniors. Team PBGKR will continue its mission to serve humanity”.

Among the other meaningful souls who had immensely contributed for the success of the programme were Shri Denis Giles, Editor, Andaman Chronicle, Smti. Samreen Nadeem of Cute Cottons Boutique and Shri Gaurab Moshid of Xtreme9 Gym. “I extend my gratitude for their kind gesture and hope that together with such meaningful souls, we would be able to serve humanity better and keep spreading smiles”, added Grewal in his message.
