Port Blair, July 23: The Andaman Nicobar Islands Institute of Medical Sciences (ANIIMS) organised Arteriovenous (AV) Fistula Creation Camp for Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) patients from July 19 to 21, 2023. A four-member team led by Dr G V Praveen Kumar, Vascular Surgeon empanelled with Ayushman Bharat was invited to create AV Fistula for those patients needing dialysis.

The AV Fistula Creation camp concluded on July 21, 2023 during which the Secretary Health, Dr Satyendra Singh Dursawat, IAS, met with the team of experts and thanked them for their valuable contribution to the health of islanders and felicitated them with the certificate of appreciation. He also requested them to continue their support in future also. Earlier, the AF Fistula Creation Camp was inaugurated by the Director, ANIIMS in presence of Faculty members including surgeons and physicians and other officials of the ANIIMS on July 19, 2021.

During the camp, a total of 23 patients were attended by the expert team during the camp. AV-fistula was created in 18 CKD patients that include insertion of permanent catheter in two patients. The remaining five patients were reviewed for dysfunctional AV-fistulas that the patients already had. The CKD patients belong to all three districts availed the benefit of the camp. During the surgical interventions ANIIMS’s faculty members Dr. G. Gajendraraj, HOD General Surgery, Dr Mohammed Mustafa PP, Assistant Professor and Dr Anis Ahtarkhavari, Senior Resident of the Department of Surgery assisted the expert team and both faculty members took the opportunity to get hands on training on AV Fistula Creation procedures through on-the-job training.
