Port Blair, July 31: Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, the Member of Parliament of Andaman & Nicobar Islands has deeply mourned the sad demise of former Lt. Governor of Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Shri. Vakkom Purushuthaman.

As per details, Shri. Vakkom Purushuthaman passed away due to age-related illness at Thiruvananthapuram on Monday. He was 95.

In his condolence message Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma said that during his tenure as the Lt. Governor of Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Shri. Prushuthaman was widely respected by the general public due to his amazing ability to connect with the general public.

His tenure marked a 360 degree development of Andaman & Nicobar Islands, which includes completion of some major projects like development of Marina Park, development of Gandhi Park, opening of Tourist Guest Houses in several remote islands for the first time, widening of roads in Port Blair city etc.

During his tenure Tourism started booming and being a good Administrator he took several steps to promote Tourism in Andaman.

He had been a five-time legislator and twice elected to the Lok Sabha. He was a state cabinet minister on three different occasions and Speaker of the Kerala Legislative Assembly on two occasions.

Shri. Purushothaman had also served as Governor of Mizoram and Tripura. After 2014, when he quit as Governor of Tripura, he retired from active politics and was mostly confined to his home, in Thiruvananthapuram.
