Port Blair, Aug 4: Port Blair Municipal Council organized an orientation cum training programme on "Rainwater Harvesting" on Friday at Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Auditorium of PBMC. The inaugural function was attended by Shri Ashish Joon, Joint Secretary, Port Blair Municipal Council (PBMC) as chief guest. About 162 persons from citizens, NGOs, SHG Groups Women, PBMC and other officials were participated in the training programme.

During the inaugural session, Joint Secretary, PBMC highlighted the theme of Rainwater Harvesting during the pre-monsoon and monsoon period.

He further stressed that we should give importance to creation/maintenance of water conservation and rainwater harvesting structures, renovation of traditional and other water bodies, reuse and recharge of bore wells, watershed development, and intensive afforestation.

PBMC and GIZ officials drew the attention of audience to harvest rainwater into any form structure like pond and making structure in the household’s level through presentation.

The programme was followed by technical session during which PBMC officials delivered a lecture on topic "Water conservation and rainwater harvesting".

After the presentation Question and Answer session conducted by PBMC, where PBMC officials replied for citizens questions.

At the end of the training prgramm, as a part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav PBMC celebrated the 'Meri Maati Mera Desh' Campaign. Under which oaths were administered to the students, residents and PBMC officials in honour of Brave Martyrs & Freedom Fighter by Joint Secretary, PBMC.
