Port Blair, Aug 7: Ministry of Health & Family Welfare is committed toward provide 100% full immunization and reduce the Vaccine Preventable Disease across the County. In view of this, Intensified Mission Indradhanush 5.0 was launched in these Islands with rest of the country aiming to enhance immunization coverage for all vaccines specified under the National Immunization schedule for children below 5 years and pregnant mothers especially Measles & Rubella vaccine for children up to 5 years of age. The ultimate objective is to eliminate Measles & Rubella by the year 2023.

The IMI 5.0 will be conducted in three rounds: Round 1 will be held from Aug 7 – 12, Round 2 will be held from Sept 11 – 16, and Round 3 will be held from Oct 9 – 14, 2023.

Each round will be conducted for 6 working days i.e. including Routine Immunization days. It will cover the dropped out and left out children up to the age of 5 years and pregnant women with missed doses of vaccine. It will give special focus on improving coverage of Measles & Rubella (MR) vaccine Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine (PCV) and 3rd doses of fractional Inactivated Polio Vaccine (fIPV).

Further, hence forth all the physical cards for vaccination will go online on par with COVID19 vaccination certificate through the U-WIN Portal of GoI.

An inaugural function was conducted in this regard at PHC Garacharama today, during which Dr Omkar Singh, CMO (NFAG), ex-DHS, was the chief guest and Dr Avijit Roy, SIO/Deputy Director (Health), Shri. B. Nagendra, DPM-DHS, were special guests along with Dr Rohit, State Project Officer, UNDP. Dr Avijit Roy briefed about the IMI 5.0 and activities conducted regarding the same and requested all the parent and pregnant women to take the opportunity and get vaccinated. Dr Omkar Singh emphasized on importance of Immunization and urgedthe Community to participate in such Program. The program was concluded by administrating the beneficiary with vaccine and new e-Certificate for vaccination to the beneficiaries. Dr Mohd Shafique, MO (AYUSH) welcomed the gathering while Dr Snigdha, MO proposed the vote of thanks.
