Port Blair, Aug 9: In support of the Mahapadaav organized by the central trade unions jointly all over the country against the anti-worker and anti-farmer policies of the central government, CITU Andaman & Nicobar State Committee organized a Mass Dharna at Tiranga Park, Port Blair today (9.8.2023) evening. 

Inaugurating the Mass Dharna, R. Surendran Pillai, President of the CITU A & N State Committee said that the BJP-led central government and its Administration in the islands are continuously pursuing anti-working class policies.  He said that   despite order of the Division Bench of the High Court, the arrears of 1/30th of pay plus DA is not being paid to the daily rated mazdoors working under the Andaman & Nicobar Administration.

Addressing the participants in the Mass Dharna, D. Ayyappan, Vice President, CITU A & N State Committee said that the central trade unions all over the country are on Mahapadaav today to protest against retrograde policies of the BJP government at the centre.  He said that more than 40 Labour laws are being abolished and in its place 4 Labour Codes are proposed to be implemented. This is being done to help the corporates in the country. He said that the Modi government is in power only to further the interests of the corporate houses and said that a Corporate-communal nexus is prevailing in the country.  He expressed concern over the inaction on the part of the government to arrest the sky-rocketing prices.  

CITU State Secretaries SP Kalairajan and P. Sathyapal also addressed the meeting and exposed the anti-people policies being pursued by the government at the centre.   

Chandrachoodan, General Secretary, M. Boominathan and BC Bhattacharjee, Vice Presidents, Shyamal Koley, Treasurer and S. Chinnaiah, Anand Rajan and M. Yugandar Secretaries of CITU State Committee were present on the occasion.

A large number of workers from Port Blair town attended the Mass Dharna.
