Port Blair, Aug 10: The Director General of Police, Shri Devesh Chandra Srivastva, IPS today visited the campus of India Reserve Battalion at Port Mout accompanied by Smt. Monika Bhardwaj, IPS, DIGP (L&O/IRBn). On arrival of the DGP, A&N Islands, an excellent “Guard of Honour” was presented by the IRBn Jawans. Subsequently, the DGP inaugurated the newly revamped model barrack, which got a major facelift to provide modern facilities to the Jawans who are discharging their duties at secluded islands with minimum basic amenities.

Once the Jawans are back to the headquarters, it is the sacred responsibility to provide their living accommodation with good ambiance and modern facilities to rejuvenate themselves. Accordingly, on pilot basis out of 09 Jawan barracks at IRBn (HQ), one barrack has been developed as a Model Barrack comprising of Modern beds/mattress and linen, Mobile recharge points, Separate Cupboards, Indoor Games, Floral curtains, decorative foot mats, photos, glasses etc.

The model barrack has been named in memory of “Late Sanjeev, Ex.-Sub-Inspector, Kirti Chakra, Memorial Model Jawan Barrack”. It is pertinent to mention that Late Shri Sanjeev Ex.-Sub-Inspector had sacrificed his life during the massive Earthquake followed by devastating Tsunami which hit the Islands in December 2004, while saving the life of civilians.

After the inauguration of the barrack as a part of “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” on the theme “Meri Maati Mera Desh” the DGP A&N Police Administered “Panch Pran Pledge” to the officers and various other ranks and also observed 02 minutes silence for the martyrs at the conference hall of IRBn HQ.

The DGP, A&N Islands also witnessed finals of the first ever “Badminton Tournament” conducted at IRBn (HQ) for the Officers & Jawans of the Battalion. On completion of the match, the DGP felicitated the winners and runners up with prizes and commendation certificates.

Speaking on this occasion, the DGP emphasized about the advancement of IRBn especially for providing better amenities and infrastructure to the Jawans of the Battalion who are guarding the LOPs across the Islands and also encouraged the Jawans to participate in more such sports tournaments to be organized in the Battalion and other units of A&N Police, which not only give stress free professional life, but also it will give health benefits for the IRBn Jawans.
