Port Blair, Aug 10: In response to the pressing concerns voiced by residents and NH4 commuters, Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, the Member of Parliament of Andaman and Nicobar Islands has written to the Hon’ble Minister of Road Transport & Highways, urging immediate attention to the deplorable state of the Andaman Trunk Road (NH4).

In a letter addressed to the Minister, the Member of Parliament mentioned that the deteriorating condition of NH4 across various stretches in North and Middle Andaman regions has raised significant alarms regarding commuter safety and convenience. Many individuals relying on this crucial artery for daily travel have expressed their distress over the hazardous state of the road, which not only poses inconveniences but also jeopardizes public safety.

He pointed out that particular sections such as the Baratang region stretch, Kousalya Nagar to Rangat stretch, Thoratang area, Badamnallah to Rest Camp Stretch, Austin region and Mohanpur stretch of NH4 have been severely affected due to heavy rainfall and incomplete infrastructure.

He added the relentless rain has rendered these areas nearly impassable, making navigation perilous for vehicles of all sizes. Unfortunately, the precarious state of these stretches has forced people to take undue risks while crossing. Such dire conditions have prompted concerns for the general public's safety and well-being across the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

In light of these pressing concerns, Sharma appealed to the Hon’ble Minister for immediate intervention.

He earnestly requested the Minister to direct the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) to expedite the remaining construction work on NH4. “Furthermore, urgent measures must be taken to repair and restore the affected stretches of the Andaman Trunk Road (NH4) to ensure basic motorability,” he added.
